A large, luminous blue opal s the main focus of this splendid ring. Its glowing colours are enhanced by the intricate 9 carat gold setting. The stone is a triplet. This means that the slice of opal is reinforced by a backing of onyx and a protective covering. Is the fact that it is a slice of a large stone a drawback? Not really; we expect our diamonds to be cut or sliced from a larger stone! The price of a solid opal this size would have been eye-watering and the resulting jewel cumbersome. (We wish!) As it is, this opal has been expertly fashioned from the whole, and cleverly crafted into the perfect setting, creating a wonderful jewel; the result being that you can own a truly stunning opal at a reasonable price. The ring is signed with the Goldsmiths' initials, S&K. and the date mark signifies 1973. The assay mark is indistinct but we believe it to be a leopard's head denoting London. The ring is a generous size O but can be re-sized, free of charge by our craftsmen jewellers.
